Early Review: Survive by Alex Morel

Survive by Alex Morel
Publisher: Razorbill
Publication Date: August 2012
Number of Pages: 259
Book Format: ARC (Recieved from Around The World ARC Tours)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

These plane crash books never cease to amaze me. They keep getting better and better. In Survive by Alex Morel, Jane is a patient in a suicide watch hospital and she wants to kill her self because she’s still dealing with the pain of her father committing suicide a few years earlier. So Jane puts this whole plan together where she is very good and earns enough points to be able to fly back to her home and spend Christmas with her family. On the plan though she plans to take a bunch of pills and die before she even gets home. The problem is her plan is spoiled when the plane crashes right before she’s going to swallow the pills. When Jane wakes up she’s completely alone except for one other person Paul and together they have to fight to Survive.

Weird right? She wants to kill herself but then she’s luck to be alive when plenty of other people who wanted to be alive are dead, funny how that works, and we see that it hurts her that it worked that way in the book. Not because she still wants to be dead but because she feels guilty about being just about to kill herself but then being one of the only ones to survive. But our other survivor Paul, helps her to get over her guilt and gets them to safety.

I knew that Paul was going to be the love interest because of the blurb on the back but I knew when she met him too. She was in a line to get onto the plane and she was getting annoyed with the guy in front of her because he was taking so long which caused her to freak out, luckily he’s not that crazy and he started to crack jokes to calm her down. Right then and there I knew his name was Paul even though they hadn’t said it yet. So when he sat next to her on the plane extended his hand and said “I’m Paul Hart” I screamed I KNEW IT! At like 1:30 in the morning!

After the plane crash our main characters survive for a few days in a tiny airplane bathroom to keep warm but then the jet fuel fumes start getting closer so they know they have to move. One of the things I loved about this book was that the love wasn’t instant! Jane actually really disliked Paul before they really got to know each other and I love that in a book!

In the end the book get’s a 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons I’ve stated above! I loved the suspense of Paul & Jane struggling to survive alone in the mountains in the dead of winter yes you read right! Also because they weren’t instant loves which I talked more about in the above paragraph! I hope you enjoyed this review =)

Swoon by Nina Malkin

Swoon by Nina Malkin
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Publication Date: May 19, 2009
Number of Pages: 421
Book Format: Paperback (Won from a giveaway awhile back)
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I agree with some of the reviews I’ve seen recently of Swoon by Nina Malkin. But don’t get my wrong it’s not a bad thing at all! The reviews have said that this book is darker then it looks which some people were disappointed with but I wasn’t at all. Dark books are my favorite books especially books about ghosts. I don’t read enough of them and I seriously wish I did. But enough of my rambling let’s talk about the book.

Our main characters is Candice she lives in Swoon, CT where she moved from NY to be closer to some family. Everyone in Swoon has a nickname that has something to do with their names. Including Candice, her nickname is “Dice” this is one of my favorite parts of the book because everybody had such unusual names considering they were nicknames and they were short too which made it easy to keep track of everyone. Our other main character is Dice’s cousin Penny “Pen” these two together very much trouble makers.

Our two main characters are cousins and there always doing things together. Which I love I wish I was that close to my cousins. But anyways Pen is crazy and she loves to do daredevil things so of course she’s climbing a tree and guess what happens? She falls! Which is a really bad thing because a long time ago a man name Sinclair Powers was hung from that very tree. Can you guess what happened next? Yes Sinclair takes over Pen’s body and this becomes a very interesting possession you know like you see in haunting. As you can tell I was loving this book at this part!

While Sin is in Pen’s body she starts doing bad things. Worse then the crazy things she did before, and Dice realizes this she knows that she has to do something to get Sinclair out of Pen’s body and so she does. But instead of getting Sin out she gives him his own body and he’s able to walk the earth as a new man. That’s as far as I’m going to tell you because the rest would just be spoilers but I can tell you that I fell in love with Sin even though he was really really bad!

Now of course this book had a bit of a love triangle between Sin, Dice, and Pen. But it wasn’t a huge heart breaking one It was a manageable one which was another thing I loved about the book. You could see that Pen was falling for Sin really hard since he became his own person but I was rooting for him and Dice all the way! There were plenty of other things to enjoy about this book including some of the problems the other characters had. They weren’t huge problems but they were enough to where you wanted to find out what happened to them as well as Pen, Dice and Sin.

I gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. The reason being because there were some chapters in the book that made no sense to me at all what’s so ever. Those chapters were the ones when the mysterious Ruby showed up. I just finished the book and I have no clue who she was and why she was even in the book to begin with, I’m hoping to find out what the story with her is in the second book!

Early Review: Small Medium At Large by Joanne Levy

Small Medium at Large by Joanne Levy
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Publication Date: July 3, 2012
Number of Pages: 208
Book Format: ARC from DAC ARC Tours
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So I just finished Small Medium At Large and after reading the book I finally understand the title! I never really understood them before but now I do! Small Medium At Large is a story about a girl named Lilah who while attending her mothers wedding she gets hit by lighting. When she wakes up in the hospital she starts hearing voices and she's confused because only her parents are in the room but neither of them are speaking. The voice finally reveals itself to us as Lilah's dead grandmother Bubby. But don't worry Bubby isn't the only spirit we get to meet. I have to say that Joanne Levy did a great job keeping my interest between the spirits, Lilah trying to get her dad to date, and her trying to get her own crush to notice her it all kept my attention!

For this book it's hard to pick favorites because I really enjoyed all the characters but I have to say that I did have a least favorite and it might sound weird because this character was in the book for like 3 chapters but she still really annoyed me and that person was Lilah's mother. Why you ask? Well because her daughter gets hit by lighting and of course she's there when she wakes up the first time. But when she wakes up in the hospital the second time before she goes home her mother isn't there because she's gone on her honeymoon. Now granted Lilah did have her father who she was closer with but if I had a daughter and she was HIT BY LIGHTING! I would so not be leaving her side until she was at home safe. Anybody agree with me?

I absolutely loved Lilah's dad he was such a fun character to read. He was the kind of dad that I want my dad to be. He was like Lilah's best friend, a great dad who protected his daughter when need be but he wasn't way to over protective and he even let her help him start dating again! I thought he was a cute character because he just seemed so innocent! But you realize what a good relationship she has with her dad in the first place because after her parents divorce she lives with her dad instead of her mom. (Another thing about the mom. I would make sure I have custody of my kids!)

Sorry about all the ranting this book has sent me on a tangent! Anyways the whole spirit thing with Lilah! was another one of my favorite parts of the book. One thing that surprised me was how easily her friends and a few other people believed her when she told them she hears dead people. I would of thought she would of had a really hard time convincing them but she didn't and I sort of liked that! I thought it was awesome how the sprits just popped up out of nowhere to help her when she needed it!

This book for me gets a 4 out of 5 stars. Reason being is because although I enjoyed the whole thing I think a few things could of changed as I said above. But don't get me wrong the book was an awesome quick read and i'd definitely read it again!

Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Insurgent by Veronica Roth
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publication Date: May 1, 2012
Number of Pages: 525
Book Format: Hardcover (Borrowed from Angela @ Reading Angel)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’m in awe right now. As you can tell I just finished Insurgent by Veronica Roth and this book has been a rollercoaster for me but an amazing rollercoaster at that. Please stop reading here if you haven’t read Divergent yet. In Insurgent our main characters Tris & Four or “Beatrice & Tobias” have escaped from their faction Dauntless because it’s being controlled by the tyrant Jeanine. She is basically trying to take over the world and obviously Tris & Four don’t like this. The whole book is about these two doing there best to save there world and keep their relationship strong in the process.

A few things have changed with my feelings for the characters since Divergent. Tris I didn’t have a problem with her in the end of the first book she was strong and sometimes stubborn and in love with four so I liked her. But in the second book I’m not sure what Roth did to her but everything she did basically annoyed me. I have a feeling that the only reason why everything she did annoyed me was because it was all going against what Four wanted, and you know I’m all for Four =)

One of the reasons this book was such a rollercoaster is because every chapter was either Tris & Tobias making out or they were fighting and that annoyed me too but it was always awesome when they made up so I was able to deal with it. Some things in the story though I was so not expecting I’m obviously not going to spoil it but I’m still very disappointed with Tris & Caleb who is her brother.

Apart from all the rambling I just did about being annoyed, the book was packed with action and I LOVED it! Every chapter had some sort of gun shot or screaming or something that made your heart start beating faster and that’s one of the reasons I love reading books by Veronica Roth so much!

I give the book a 5 out of 5 stars because although I was annoyed with Tris I’m not going to let that take my rating down too much because part of me still understands she was trying to save her people, she wasn’t intentionally trying to hurt Tobias. It also deserves a 5 stars because the ending went from sad and heartbreaking too happy and amazing in a matter of about 10 pages pretty good if I do say so myself!

Fates Design Tour: Author Interview!

Wow it's been so busy on the blog this week! But that's okay because I love being apart of these tours =) I was asked by the host of These Paper Worlds tours to be apart of the Fates Design by Lola James tour. I decided that I wanted to interview Lola so thats what I did. But before I share that with you here is a little bit about the book and author!

Fate's Design by Lola James
Book Blurb: (Taken from Goodreads)
A summer vacation in Italy with her twin sister, Morgan, is just what Megan Romano needs. But instead of fun, wine, and relaxation, she finds unexpected romance. Alexandros DiPiero, a sexy and mysterious Italian businessman, falls for Megan the minute he lays eyes on her, but Megan knows it’s too good to be true.

Increasingly haunting dreams that warn of danger and destiny plague Megan’s every sleeping moment. As her nightmares become deadly and her love life heats up, Megan will come face to face with her worst fear.

About the author:
Lola James calls herself a "hopeless romantic," which leads itself well to the paranormal romance genre. She is the author of Bound To Remember, the first novel in The Spellbound Series. More information on the Fate Series can be found on it's blog, http://thefateseries.blogspot.com/ For updates from Lola James, follow her on Twitter @1Lola_James, visit her website at www.lolajames.com/ or visit her blog at http://lolajames-author.blogspot.com/

Now it's time to welcome Lola to the blog! I had an awesome experience interviewing her and I can't wait to read Fate's Desgin!

1. Where did you get your idea for Fate's Design?
I am a big believer in fate and I that everything happens for a reason, so when I started writing I knew that would be my concept. I also have always had strange dreams that are somewhat de ja vuish so I wanted to incorporate that too into this book.

2. How long did you know you wanted to be a writer before you actually started writing?
I started writing when I was young but I never thought I wanted to be a writer. It wasn’t until I fell back in love with reading that I the writing bug bit me again. Then the words flowed and I sort of fell into becoming a writer.
3. How long where the characters of Fate's Design living in your head before you put them on paper?
Well, Alex has been there for a while. I would say a few years. He was my concept on the perfect guy with flaws (I think that’s how every character should be because no one is perfect). The rest just formed as I wrote. The book started with a dream that I had and I woke up and wrote the dream out. After that my main character took the lead. I had no idea how she would turn out but I love her now!

4. What advice would you give to writers who are looking to become published authors?
Follow your dreams don’t sweat the small stuff and just write! Get the story out of your head and on to paper! That fast you do that everything else will just fall into place.
5. What is your favorite part of being an author?
Meeting new people that are fans of my books! I can’t really say or think that they are friends of mine because I haven’t done anything to have fans. I geek out from emails and messages from them because it is so unreal but I love the feeling!

6. Do you have a favorite place to write or something that gets you motivated to write?
Music motivates me and I have an office in my bedroom that is where the magic happens. Sometimes I’ll get in the shower and my muse will jump in with me!
7. Lastly, can we expect any more books from you in the future?
I hope to publish at least four more before the end of the year! This will include the next book in this series and a few other projects that I am working on!

I hope you guys enjoyed that interview! Don't forget to check out all the author stops on the tour!!

Cicada Blog Tour: Review

Ever since I heard about Cicada by Belle Whittington I've wanted to read it, so when I got the chance to be on the blog tour I jumped at it. I flew through it because it was so good. I can't wait to share with you guys what I thought of it! Anyways let's get some background info before I share with you my review.
The Author:

The Book:
Book Blurb:
Summertime for Blair Reynolds and her friends had always been carefree and fun... until the summer they happened upon something that was not human. As they band together in a fight for their lives, Blair's true love becomes something more than human. Something unnatural. And their survival depends entirely upon their ability to keep a secret.

Where can you find the book?? In these places!
Paperback:
Amazon
CreateSpace

e-book:
Amazon
Barnes & Noble
Smashwords

My Review:
When I received Cicada I wasn’t exactly sure what it was about and a good way into the book I still didn’t really know, but that made the book even more enjoyable because you didn’t know what you were going to get. Blair the main character has a tight nit family and a close group of friends which we can talk about later and one night while at her grandparents farm they find a crop circle. Their not sure what it really is or how it got there but there first thoughts are aliens. One night in the woods they find this cocoon with a creature in it and it all goes down hill from there.

In this book we meet many characters which is always good, More characters the merrier! We have our main character Blair who is always really nervous about her brother and best friend Everett doing dangerous stuff because of things happened in the past but she’s strong and she let’s them do what they want. Which is something I really liked about her she wasn’t some annoying clingy girl who was always scared of letting guys leave. Andrew is brother is one of my favorite characters because of the love that he shows for his sister. He’s always making sure she’s safe and he rarely raised his voice to her, and he just sounds like the perfect brother to me.

Next up is Everett, Andrew and Blair’s best friend. I liked him because he’s a nerd and as you know I’m a nerd so he fits in. He loves bugs and animals he couldn’t hurt a fly which is why I’m glad he found the Cicada first which kept the little guy alive for a least a few days anyway. The last two characters are David and Natalie. They are the last two people in the group, and they fit in because every group needs to have a strong guy and a snotty girl and that’s exactly what these two were.

To tell you guys the truth I have never read a book about any type of Aliens before and for awhile I wasn’t exactly sure what I felt about this one but Belle did a great job keeping me interested. Especially with the added romance between Blair and Everett!

I hope you guys enjoyed my review and plan to pick up the book in the future because it's so good =) Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to stop by other places on the tour!

Simplicity Tour: Author Interview

Hey peoples =) Today I am apart of the Simplicity by Valia Lind hosted by the lovely Valia herself! Ever since I started following her blog I've wanted to check out her book so I'm wicked excited to be apart of the blog tour! Anyways let's find out a little about the book before our interview shall we?

Book Blurb:
Driven, beautiful Alexis Sinclair lives her life to the fullest, following her dreams of running a big company. But when her world is torn apart by a storm, everything she has ever known disappears. Now, marooned on an island with a group of men, Alexis must learn to live in a world made up of simple things. Letting go of every known convenience, she realizes how insignificant her life has become. But when a strange beautiful woman washes up on his beach, the walls that he has put up long ago begin to crumble. Is she a punishment sent from God to torment his weary soul? Or is she a gift, sent from above, there to teach him how to trust? Who is this woman? And how will he stop himself from losing his heart?
Will he learn to forgive the past in order to save the woman he loves?

Now it's time to welcome Valia for an interview **Drum roll please!** Welcome Valia!!

P: When did you know you definitely wanted to be a writer?

V: Honestly, I’m not exactly sure when I had the big epiphany about my writing. As cliche as it sounds, I was always a writer but not until Simplicity did I have any desire to get published. Well, no serious desire. Sure, I dreamed of having my book on shelves before, but Simplicity was the first push in that direction. So I guess when I wrote Simplicity?

P: What is you favorite genre to read?

V: Right now I’m in love with YA books of every kind. However, I’m a big fan of every possible genre so it just depends on what I’m feeling like at the moment. It varies.

P: How many books do you plan on writing excluding Simplicity?

V: Well, I have 3 books complete as of today (4 including Simplicity). I have written a companion story to Simplicity and two YA books. As for plans, I have no idea. I’ll be writing until I can’t write no more!

P: I’m really excited to read Simplicity. Where did you get the idea for the book?

V: It just came to me. No, seriously, it did. It was a Saturday night, I was laying on my bed in my dorm room, trying to fall asleep and the next thing I know I have this island in my mind, and there is stuff happening on it. I stayed up all night planning it in my head and the next morning I got up and told my friend about it. She said I had to write it down and so I did. And no, before you ask, its not like Lost. I haven’t watched that show until this summer.

P: What do you do to get yourself motivated for writing?

V: This is a good question, to which I don’t really have a good answer to. I know writing is a part of me, it’s something I have to do. So when I’m working on a book, I just sit down and write. Plus, I want to get better, and that requires practice. It’s like learning to play the piano. You want to do it, you take lessons, and then you practice your heart out. You do it because you love it, and thats the greatest motivation to have.

P: Do you have a favorite spot or time to write?

V: I’m a night owl. I love writing at night, because I feel like that’s when my thoughts are the clearest. I don’t have a particular spot to write, not since Borders closed. I used to have this one corner at the one next to my house. Now, I just write wherever and whenever I need to.

P: Do you have any advice for young authors?

V: I think my biggest advice is to find yourself in your writing and stay true to that. Don’t focus so much on everyone else. If you love writing, then write for the love of it. Writing is an extension of you, and people want to see you, not someone else. The other part of this is ask questions. I was so lost when I decided to publish Simplicity, and I had no idea what I was doing. Find someone out there who’s done it, who knows how the whole system works and ask for their help. You won’t be sorry.

Speed round:

P: Chocolate or Carmel?

V: Can I have chocolate with caramel?

P: Sneakers or Flip flops?

V: Sneakers! I walk too fast for my own good!

P: Burgers & Fries or Hot Dogs & Doritos?

V: Oh, I’m a burgers and fries kind of a girl. Especially if it has bacon on it!

V: Thank you so much Paige for having me on your blog! I hope you all enjoy Simplicity.

I hope you guys enjoyed the interview. I sure did! If you want to get in touch with Valia try checking out her awesome blog, Words Are Things Now are you ready for the giveaway? I hope so because you guys deserve it! and here's a little extra about Valia:

Author. Photographer. Artist. Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia Valia always had a love for the written word. She wrote her first full book on the bathroom floor of her dormitory, while procrastinating to study for her college classes. Upon graduation, she has moved her writing to more respectable places, and have found her voice in YA fiction. It's Monday What Are You Reading?

Hi guys! Sorry that this post is up really late today but I forgot to write it up last night because I was busy celebrating my 16th birthday! but better late then never right? It's Monday What Are You Reading is hosted by Sheila over at Book Journey where we show our awesome followers what we've finished in the past week, what were currently reading now and what we're reading next! So without furthre ado here is my Monday bookish wrap up!
Finished:
The Raft by S.A. Bodeen

I got this one from an OUAT ARC Tours and I'm so glad I signed up for it because I loved it!! You can check out my review if you click on the title!

So Close To You by Rachel Carter

I got this one from DAC ARC Tours and I'm also really glad I signed up for this one because there was time travel baby! I'm in love with books that have time travel, I just love the suspense of them =) Click the title for my review.

Currently Reading:
Insurgent by Veronica Roth

The only reason why I'm still reading this one is because I had to put it down for my tour books but I'm finishing it today and sending it back to Angela from Reading Angel tomorrow or Wednesday so don't worry my review will be up this weekend =)

The Keeper by Natalie Star

I know I said I was going to finish this one last weekend but I didn't have time because of the tour books and my birthday but hopefully i'll be finished soon!

Silent Song by Ron C. Nieto

I'm reading this for a blog tour with ATOMR Blog Tours and it's okay so far but I'm only on chapter 5 so I need to give it a better chance =)

Now again I'm not going to do a what's next because I feel like when I say what I'm reading next it's a jinx or something because I never end up reading them lol so this week I'm keeping my mouth shut! If you guys have any sort of post like this link me up and I'll come check it out!
