Meet The Author:

Raine Thomas is the author of the exciting and original series of YA fantasy/romance novels about the Estilorian plane. Her passion for writing prompted her to earn her bachelor’s degree in English with a focus in Creative Writing from Georgia State University, then her master’s degree in Humanities from Central Michigan University. She is also a proud member of Romance Writers of America.

Residing in Orlando, Florida, Raine is a hopeless romantic with a background in the fields of mental health and wedding planning…two areas that intersect far more than one would think. Her years working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges inspired her to create young protagonists who overcome their own conflicts. When she isn’t writing or glued to e-mail or social networking sites, Raine can usually be found vacationing with her husband and daughter on one of Florida’s beautiful beaches or crossing the border to visit with her Canadian friends and relatives.

Elizabeth Loraine Tour: Interview

Hey peoples! Today Comfort Books is yes participating in another tour but this time it's hosted by Bewitching Book Tours! This tour is for Katrina The Beginning by Elizabeth Loraine. Today I have an interview for you today but first as always let's check out the book and meet the author!
Katrina The Beginning by Elizabeth Loraine
Synopsis: The High Regent has called members of each royal vampire family to council. Katrina Von Dracek wonders what this will mean to her.

Does the council really intend to start a new covern in the Americans or is there something else?

All Katrina's vampire senses tell her evil is around them and that she will be the one called upon to save them all.

Meet The Author:
I grew up in a small northern Minnesotan town married my high school sweetheart, had two beautiful children and as soon as we could we moved to a warmer climate. I have worked with my husband building and decorating custom homes for years. After loving every kind of vampire book, movie and series I decided that I wanted to know more. I can write a book I thought, how hard can that be? Well.... But I stuck to it and finished my first book Royal Blood Chronicles Book One in August 2009. I now have six books in the series and am about to release book two of my new series Phantom Lives. My parents always told me that I could do anything that I wanted, work hard, study and do it right. I believe that and live that way every day.

I started writing this new vampire series for teens and their moms because I myself wanted something different to read. I was tired of all the modern versions of vampire books, there had to be more to these long lived beings. Where had they been what had they seen? I wanted, no I NEEDED to know more so Royal Blood Chronicles was born! As in Royal Blood Chronicles, Phantom Lives features strong female characters and action and adventure mixed with romance, friendship and a historical backdrop

Now for the interview!

P:  So vampires, what made you want to write about a vampire?
E: I have been fascinated by them since I was very young, running home to watch Dark Shadows after school. I love reading about them too, Anne Rice started that for me with Interview with a Vampire.

P: Do you have a favorite place to write?
E: I sit with my laptop in my recliner.

P: What's it like writing in such an old time like the 1800's? Is it hard?
E: I had to do research. You can’t have modern things showing up, but I think it’s so much more interesting, romantic and I always wondered what these long lived beings had done back in those days. I wanted to give the reader a new look at why these characters were the way they were coming forward into modern times.

P: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
E: Have a schedule, a goal and stick to it. Whether it’s so many words a day or just to write every day, it will keep you one track. It’s very hard to keep you brain in a plot if you’re not consistently writing every day.

P: How many books do you plan on being in the Royal Blood Chronicles?
E: I don’t know. I do plan on bringing them through the wars and to modern times. Until I or the readers get bored I guess. I have so many characters and story lines to explore that I want to keep going.

P: Do you like to read as well as write? If so what is your favorite genre to read?
E: Oh I love to read. I don’t have as much time as I used to, but I read YA because I love it.

P: Considering my blog name is "Comfort Books" What is your favorite comfort read?
E: I love any story that pulls you into its world and lets you disappear in it for however long you have to read.

P: How long were your characters in your head before you put them on paper?
E: Not really. I wanted strong female characters, there are so few in the vampire genre.

P: Did you always know you wanted to be an author?
E: No, I never thought it would be possible. But now I feel like it was always what I was meant to do.

P: What can we expect from you in the future?
E: Many more Royal Blood Chronicles. I just finished book two of Lillian a vampire tale. A third book for my Phantom Lives series and I have a new series in mind for next year about shifters called Green River.

I hope you enjoyed this interview Have a great day =)

Painted Blind Tour: Excerpt

Hello hello, today Comfort Books is participating in yet another tour! Can you tell I love them? Anyways todays tour is for Painted Blind by Michelle A. Hansen hosted by AToMR Blog Tours. I was originally scheduled for a review but I didn't finish the book on time which means I will be reviewing at a later date and today I have an excerpt for you! But first, here's a little about the book.

Painted Blind by Michelle A. Hansen
Synopsis: Seventeen years old and agoraphobic, Psyche Middleton vows her dad will never see the risqué photos she took during a summer modeling stint abroad, but one of them ends up on a billboard in her Montana hometown. Now everyone—especially her dad—can see it. And yet, somehow, those are the mundane things in her life because she is about to fall unexpectedly, head-over-heels in love with Erik, a mysterious young man who rescues her from a crowd of admirers, and who she’s never actually seen because…he can make himself invisible.

As strange as this may seem, it’s about to get even stranger. Erik takes her to his palace in an idyllic kingdom, and she is swept into the beauty and culture of his world, but his affection has one condition: she may not see him. Overtaken, intrigued, and still not wholeheartedly believing he’s real, Psyche is going to have to decide if she can love him blindly; because if she can’t, she may lose him forever.

Here's the excerpt!
(Psyche & Savannah snoop through Erik's room)
Savannah went to the two enormous closests that stood behind carved wooden doors. She threw them open and revealed a stunning array of clothes. It looked as if two separate people lived here-- one mortal and one immortal. The first closet was full of his native robes, all white. Next to those hung sashes in every color, golden belts and over a dozen cloaks. Several pairs of sandals were lined up on the floor beneath them.

The other closet belonged to the wealthy mortal. Savannah took a pinstriped suit off the rack. She whistled softly. "This is an Armani." She hung it next to three other suits. "These are all Armani." His clothes are worth more than our cars." She slid the hangers down the rod. There were dozens of shirts, jackets, slacks and jeans, all with designer labels. Now I understood why he liked the Valentino in my closet.

At on end she found the leather jacket. I pulled it from it's hanger and held it to my nose. "It smells like him." I didn't want to put it back.

"So, where's the catch? He's rich, sexy and has amazing taste. Oh, and he's given you a promise thingy. This is unbelieveable. Your first boyfriend, too." She didn't try hard enough to hide the irritation in her voice.
"There's no catch, This is Erik."
"When do I get to meet him?"
"I already told you, he's shy."
"He didn't sound one bit shy on the phone, and no one with this kind of money hides it. He should be knocking down your door, convincing your dad that he is God's gift to mankind."
"Erik isn't like that."
"What is he like?" she prodded.
"He enjoys making trouble, but he didn't get rich in crime. He inherited all of this."
"I bet he looks amazing in this suit."
"Yeah, of course." My voice fell flat, and Savannah's expression brightened.
"What color are his eyes?" she prodded.
"Blue," I lied.
"How tall is he?"
"Half a foot taller then me." Not a lie. He'd said so himself.
"Build?"
"Medium and muscular." And indescribably enticing, but I didn't tell her that.
"What's his nose like?"
"It's... a..."
She nodded like she was getting somewhere now. "How did he make the bridge disappear?"
"I don't know." Erik had only made things disappear when he was touching them, but bridge was invisible all the time. I'd never asked him why,
"How did you really meet him?"
"The MSU carnival. Remember, I told you. I got caught in a crowd and he pulled me out."
"He pulled you out of a mob? How? He would have gotten caught in the crowd, too."
"He...he made me... us... disappear."
"Invisable, like the bridge. He can make himself invisable."
The dangerous gears in Savannah's brain were clicking.
"Not in his world, only in ours."
"And when you're here, he isn't with you, is he?"
Sudden fear made my voice hoarse. "He comes at night."
"Oh... my... gosh. You have never seen him."

I hope you enjoyed the excerpt! Have an awesome day everyone =) (P.S. Don't forget to check out the rest of the tour here!)

Seaweed Tour: Guest Post

Hello everyone! Today Comfort Books is participating in the tour for Seaweed by Elle Strauss! (P.S. The tour is hosted by AToMR Blog Tours) I'm very excited to be apart of this tour because I've read one of her other books and I loved it! So anyways today we have Ten Facts about Seaweed which I think would be pretty interesting, so let's check out the book then I'll share the facts.

Seaweed

Seaweed by Elle Strauss
Synopsis: Dori Seward can’t wait to get out of Eastcove, a sleepy fishing village on the border of New Brunswick and Maine. She bides her time by hanging out with friends, attending swim club, and holding her biggest competition, Colby–who wants more than just friendship, at arm’s length.

Then Tor Riley comes to town and he has everything Dori dreams of in a boyfriend–looks, athleticism and mystery.

But Tor also has a tantalizing secret and Dori is determined to find out what it is. The truth is crazier than her wildest imaginations and more dangerous, too. Dori has new enemies, and they will do anything to get to her.

Her life, her dreams and her love for Tor are all weighing in the balance. Will Dori risk it all in order to have it all?

You can check the book out on Goodreads!

Ready for the 10 Facts? Here they are:

1. Eastcove is a fictional small town on the coast of New Brunswick Canada, just across the Bay of Frundy from Maine.

2. I visited Saint John, NB and the Bay of Fundy for the first time this spring, after Seaweed was written. I went back to the script and added details afterwards.

3. I chose the north as the setting because I wanted to do a cold water underworld.

4. I also chose the north because I'm Canadian (I'm actually a duel citizen with USA but I reside in Canada) and I like to include refrences to Canada or add Canadian characters to most of my books.

5. I like to write "otherworldliness" so it's not so strange that I went from Time Travel to the Merfolk world. (Next stop--the future!)

6. Because Dori is about the discover and "otherworld," I purposely gave her a normal-ish family. Two parents who are around, a dog and a cat, and a grandparent.

7. The dog's name is Sydney and the cat's name is Crosby. This is an intentional nod to Maritime Hockey Great Sydney Crosby.

8. SEAWEED started out as a middle grade trilogy with the title How to Date a Merboy. It morphed into a single volume YA.

9. Because of this I always assumed it was complete as a stand alone story, but many readers have requested a sequel.

10. Because of this, I'm working on an outline for a second book and I hope to release it spring/summer 2013.

I hope you enjoy the 10 facts! To see the rest of the stops on the tour click here. I think there pretty interesting I forgot to tell you there's also a giveaway! Check it out down below.

Excerpt of Dark Promise:

My mother led her into the living room. The lady’s piercing green eyes rested on me, sending a chill down my back. My father followed her gaze. “Rylie, do you know this woman?” Dad asked.

“No.” I shook my head slowly. “I’ve never seen her before.”
“Rylie, maybe you should go to your room,” Dad suggested, his gaze demanding I do as he said.
“No. If this has something to do with me, I want to hear it.” I crossed my arms and sank against the back of the couch.
Mom and Dad exchanged a worried glance, but turned back to the lady on the couch. “Please, go on.”
Without taking her eyes from me, the lady calmly stated, “My name is Azura, and I am Rylie’s birth mother.”
My father, who was always a level-headed man, was on his feet in seconds, his face hard. “What are you talking about?”
I felt like I had fallen into some kind of parallel universe. Did this woman just say she was my birth mother? How could she be my birth mother? That would mean I was adopted, but wouldn’t my parents have told me something like that?
My mother shook her head. “Birth mother? Rylie isn’t adopted.” She reached over and took my hand. “Believe me, I’ll never forget the eleven hours of labor.”
The woman sat perfectly still in the blue armchair across from us, with her hands clasped on her lap. “I know it’s hard to accept, but it’s true. Your daughter died shortly after she was born. I switched the infants. Rylie is mine.”
The wind left me as if I had been punched in the stomach. I couldn’t breathe, and the room spun. I gripped the pillow next to me with my other hand as I clung to my mother.
Silence filled the room for a moment, and then my father exploded. “You need to leave now!” He pointed to the door. “Get out of this house and don’t come back without a court order.”
The lady smiled sincerely, her face still as calm as it had been when she walked in the door. “Please, hear me out. I realize this is a lot to take in.”
“No! This is preposterous! Nobody died. Rylie is ours.” Dad’s voice was like thunder.
I studied the lady. She seemed so honest and soft-spoken. Why would she pretend something like this? Why would she ruin our family if it weren’t true? And if was true, why was she coming clean now? Something in me believed her even though I didn’t want to. I swallowed hard and rubbed my sweaty palms on my shirt.
“Let her talk,” I said hoarsely.
“Rylie, you can’t believe her.” Dad looked stricken.
“I’m curious as to why she thinks I’m her daughter. Let’s hear her out.” I crossed my arms and scooted closer to my mother, comforted when she wrapped an arm around me.
Dad turned back to the woman called Azura, and his frown deepened. “Fine.” He sat back down in his seat and glared. “Talk.”
“Thank you. I’m going to tell you something not many humans know, and I have to trust you to keep it secret for Rylie’s sake.” She addressed the statement to my parents.
Humans? Who talks like that?

Excerpt of Dark Promise:

“You want to dance here?” she asked, taking it. “There’s no music.”
Decker swept her into his arms. “We don’t need music.”
They didn’t. Her touch made him shudder, and their bodies synced as they did every time they danced. The music originated from their entwined souls. The blue flames of his magick traveled over her at each point where their bodies touched. Like a switch turning off, the chaos in his mind disappeared. His body relaxed, and he sensed her body yield as well.
“You’re not talking about dancing,” she said.
“No, I’m not,” he replied, heart quickening. He was lost in her dark gaze and soft scent, both girly and earthy. “I’m talking about this, whatever this is. I wasn’t sure you felt it.”
“I do. I just … I’m afraid of what it means.”
“You’ll fear it more when I tell you what I am.”
She tensed but didn’t look away or try to move away. Pressed together, their bodies kept the innate rhythm.
“What?” she asked at last.
Decker drew a breath. Fear trickled through him at the thought of her rejection. He couldn’t live with himself if she walked away. He couldn’t live with himself if he tricked her into being with him, and she found out in two weeks what that really meant. She’d hate him.
“Decker, what?”
“When Beck and I turn eighteen, he becomes the Master of Light, and I become the Master of …”
She stumbled and stopped in place, staring up at him. Her breathing grew fast and erratic, the pulse in her wrist beating like a machine gun against his hand.
“Fire and Night,” she finished in a voice almost too quiet to hear.
He nodded, throat tightening.
Her gaze went to the blue fire traveling up and down her arms. Decker looked at it as well, unable to stop the creep of his magick into her body. It acted as if they were one body, not two, and wouldn’t stay inside him. She said nothing. Decker shifted away and released her, expecting the rejection to follow. The effect she had on him faded without disappearing completely.
“I’m sorry, Summer,” he whispered. “I understand.”
He turned to walk away. The chaos and fury returned to his head. He walked a few steps and was about to run for the darkness of the forest when her cool hand touched his arm. Decker stopped without turning.

As Marsala closes in, Curry faces the decision he never wanted to make. Will he keep Chansey human or condemn her to eternity as the thing he hates most?
As Curry waits for his hand to be forced, a newly turned vampire arrives at the Savannah compound in need of help. Not only is she a fledgeling in transition, she brings reports of escaping from a vampire cult still in possession of her sister, a human. Any attempt to save the captive human from a cult of vampires puts everyone in jeopardy. Can they risk entering a large cult to save one human being? And is so, how could they possibly do it successfully?

P: Before we get started thanks so much for being on Comfort Books today Georgia!

P: What books have most influenced your life?
G: For me, The Holy Bible has and will always be the most influential book of all time for me. End of story.

P: Do you have a favorite book or genre?
G: I’m asked about my favorite book often and this is how I feel about that question. Books are like my children. I could never choose one to be my favorite but I will nail down my favorite genre...kin of. Without doubt, it’s always Romance whether it’s a subcategory of Young Adult vs. Adult or Paranormal vs. Contemporary.

P: What is the first book you remember reading by yourself?
G:  have a terrible memory but I have a distinct memory of reading a Clifford the Big Red Dog Halloween Book. I bought it at a book fair at school and I still have it for my daughters but it looks like an antique up next to the cool animation on their new Clifford books.

P: What are you reading right now?
G: The Wild Ones by M. Leighton. Woop Woop! I love that girl and her writing. This is by far her most excellent work.

I hope you all enjoyed the interview! Make sure you check out the other stops on the tour  here!

Early Review: Who I Kissed by Janet Gurtler

Who I Kissed by Janet Gurtler
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
Publication Date: October 1, 2012
Number of Pages: 320
Book Format: ARC (From Around The World ARC Tours)
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read and am reviewing Who I Kissed from Around The World ARC Tours for an honest review.

I didn't realize how deep Who I Kissed would actually go! It's a story of a girl named Samantha and she's a swimmer. One night while at a party her crush Zee abandons her to make out with another girl so she decides see wants to get back at him by making out with someone else. Unfortunately she chooses the wrong guy. Reason being because the guy she kissed Alex has a peanut allergy and she had a peanut butter sandwich just before going to this party. Crazy right?

The night Alex dies is the worst night of Sam's life because she believes this is all her fault. But thankfully she has her best friend Taylor her dad and her aunt Allie to help get here through this. That's what the whole book is basically about Sam getting through her guilt and getting through losing some friends and being bullied. Sam's character is the good girl so you'd think that nothing like this would happen to someone like her, but it did.

My favorite character though was Aunt Allie, Just because she was so caring and crazy at the same time. She believes in like fortune telling and hand readings and spirits and things like that which some people would probably think is weird but I really liked that about her and I liked that Sam accepted her aunt for who she is she didn't call her crazy all the time like her dad did.

The plot was really interesting and deep like I said before. There isn't many YA books based solely on a peanut allergy so having a book that is for once is good because it's good to let the world know that there are severe peanut allergies out their and people do need to be careful! Even though this was a fiction story it was very eye opening and it could be very real that's why I'm giving this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Seventeen year old Zoe Vanderveen is a GAP—a genetically altered person. She lives in the security of a walled city on prime water-front property along side other equally beautiful people with extended life spans.

Her brother Liam is missing.

Noah Brody is a natural who lives on the outside. He leads protests against the GAPs and detests the widening chasm they’ve created between those who have and those who don’t. He doesn’t like girls like Zoe and he has good reason not to like her specifically.

Zoe’s carefree life takes a traumatic turn.  She’s in trouble and it turns out that Noah, the last guy on earth she should trust, is the only one who can help her.
